Kelheim and Altmuehltal

Sunday we went to Kelheim and had a look at the Befreiungshalle (liberation hall). It's a magnificent building to honor the liberation from Napoleon.

And yes, my wife is not very tall at all...

You can actually climb to the top of the building - if your partner is not afraid to climb narrow stairs. Gives you an awesome view above Kelheim, the Danube valley and the Altmuehl valley.

Following the Altmuehl river we got to the little village of Essing with a castle ruin overlooking. Just absolutely gorgeous. Crossing the wooden bridge we got to the little "Gasthof" and had a small lunch.

And a few more miles downriver we got to the town of Riedenburg. We have to come back here for the "three castle hike" when the weather is better...

So long for now...Matthias

DAS BOOT - is sinking.

Our car is a 10 year old Ford Scorpio - a huge boat.
I lovingly call it "Das Boot".
Anyway, today I encountered an iceberg...or shall we say that the iceberg encountered me?
Got rear ended with gusto - the air bags of my tailgater exploded too.
Luckily I didn't get hurt too bad.

That little episode reminded me of the "what are you sinking about" video clip of the German Coast Guard....if you haven't seen it yet...here it is

over and out, Matthias
